Newsletter Committee Minutes
July 9, 2000
9:30 a.m.

Present: Sandra Levy (Chicago), Allan Urbanic (Berkeley), Cathy Zeljak (GWU), Andy Spencer (Indiana), Kay Sinnema (Duke), Terri Miller (MSU), Beth Feinberg (UCLA)

Minutes from January 2000 were approved.

Levy reported that the Newsletters arrived late because bulk rate mail is slow, she may send Committee members their newsletters by first class mail.

Levy is now attending meetings for ACRL newsletter editors. The SEES newsletter is very different than others. Ours is substantially larger than most. Some newsletters are going to an all-electronic format, but we will stay with print because of concerns of access for libraries in Eastern Europe and Russia.

Urbanic distributed a financial report. We have a small reserve fund accumulated. There are funds so that some newsletters could be sent first class. Levy thanked Urbanic for keeping track of finances.

Levy asked members to keep their eyes open for a cover for issue #17. A graphic black- and-white works best. Levy will contact Pat Polansky about profiling the University of Hawaii library with its Russian Far East collection. The Hoover library was suggested as an alternate, as was the Bancroft Library.

Levy commented that the Committee will need new members. Jean Dickinson (U. Nebraska) has expressed an interest. Summer can no longer do Grants and Acquisitions. Miller would like to switch assignments. Barr will do Transitions.

Meeting adjourned 10:30 a.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Beth Feinberg
