Continuing Education Committee Minutes
Jan. 13, 2001
Present: Tatiana G. Barr (Florida), Mischa Buczkowski (Oregon), Jackie =
Byrd (Indiana), Inna Gudanets (Stanford), Terri Miller (Michigan =
State), Janice Pilch (Illinois), Marek Sroka (Illinois), Cathy Zeljak =
(George Washington)
The minutes of the July 2000 meeting were approved.
Janice Pilch distributed a document containing three lists:
- North American institutions with centers and/or graduate =
programs in Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (including =
Departments of Slavic Languages and Literatures) and =
Library/Information Science programs
- North American institutions with centers and/or graduate programs =
in Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (including Departments =
of Slavic Languages and Literatures) but no Library/Information Science =
programs
- Short list of other North American institutions with graduate =
programs in Slavic languages and literatures
Letters will be sent to each of the institutions listed to offer =
mentoring to graduate students in Slavic/East European/ Eurasian =
studies who are considering a career in librarianship. Joanna Dyla has =
drafted a letter, but she was unable to attend the meeting. Inna =
Gudanets will ask Joanna to have different versions of the letter, one =
for each of the lists. The following people offered to send the =
letters when they are available:
- List 1, p. 1-5: Inna Gudanets
- List 1, p. 6-10: Marek Sroka
- List 2: Terri Miller
- List 3: Tatiana Barr
Inna Gudanets will find out from Joanna whether a visit to the Russian =
Museum has been arranged for the ALA Conference in San Francisco in =
June, 2001.
