Automated Bibliographic Control Committee Minutes
June 25, 2005
Present: Inna Gudanets (Stanford), Michael Brewer (Arizona), Diana
Brooking (Washington), Mischa Buczkowski (Oregon), Jackie Byrd
(Indiana), Brenda Carter (Pittsburgh), Jean Dickinson (Hoover), Joana Dyla
(Stanford), Beth Feinberg (UCLA), Carl Horne (Indiana), Soobum Kim
(Stanford), Tim Larson
(Indiana), Sandra Levy (Chicago), Dan Pennell (Pittsburgh), Janice Pilch
(Illinois), Andy Spencer (Wisconsin), Marek Sroka (Illinois), Robert
Toyama (Graduate Theological Union of Berkeley), Lydia Wasylenko
(Syracuse), Gwido Zlatkes (Harvard)
- Minutes: The minutes of the Boston Midwinter Conference
meeting in 2005 were approved as submitted.
- CC:DA Liaison: Inna Gudanets reported that the CC:DA liaison,
Robert Maxwell could not attend, due to a conflict, but would send a
written report.
- Slavic Catalogers and AAACR3/RDA: It was felt that, with RDA
on the horizon, it is important that SEES have input as this is developed.
Diana Brooking, Andy Spencer, and Jackie Byrd volunteered to provide input
for the section as drafts become available. Joanna Dyla also expressed
interest, as time permits.
- Slavic Cataloging Manual: It was decided that the Slavic
Cataloging Manual would be divided up for the purpose of a systematic
review for inaccuracies, broken links, etc. An email will be posted on
Slavlib announcing the review and encouraging the reporting of any
problems with the manual.
- Next Year's Committee: Brenda Carter and Soobum Kim are the
continuing members, and the other members have been on for four years and
cannot continue. Brenda agreed to become chair, and Soobum will continue
as webmaster.
- Other Business: The group had a discussion of the availability
of Cyrillic script in OCLC and its impact on cataloging. Issues included:
- Which fields should have parallel script fields?
- Will OCLC offer automatic translation from Cyrillic to romanized
or vice versa?
- Which libraries will take this on?
