Annual Russian Bazaar hosted by St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Cathedral
October 20th, 2007
11AM-6PM
400 17th St., NW
Washington, DC 20011

If you're ready for something different, then try getting a taste of Old Russia on October 20 - 21.  The hosts of this Annual Bazaar make it their goal to feed both your appetite and your soul. The soul food is homemade, literally. Try golubtsy (stuffed cabbage rolls), begos (smoked sausage in cabbage and sauerkraut), pelmeni (meat dumplings in bouillon,
with sour cream), pirozhky pastries, and more. Or you can stick with the old standbys like beef stroganoff and borscht.

Once your stomach is filled, feed the soul by taking a tour of the17th-century Muscovite-Yaroslav style cathedral, which is straight out of medieval Russia with icon fresco-covered walls and ceilings. As Washingtonian magazine put it, "The interior of St. John the Baptist is defined by an exquisite intimacy and a wash of shimmering gold."

Other attractions include: Russian entertainment and music, our new Byzantine Café coffee bar, an ethnic bake sale, imported cultural and religious goods, a book sale, and more.

Kids aren't forgotten: activities include face painting, hot dogs,
cotton candy, and the ever-popular moon bounce.
