1998 Academy of Management Midyear Conference
on "Organizational Learning: Moving from Theory to Research"

March 22-23, 1998

Committee:

Andrea Casey, The George Washington University.
Janet Dukerich, University of Texas.
Robert Eder, Portland State University.
Margaret Gorman, The George Washington University.
Richard Klimoski, George Mason University.
Theresa Lant, New York University.
David Schwandt, The George Washington University.
Sim Sitkin, Duke University.

Purpose:

"To share theoretical models of and research on organizational learning".

Participants will experience the excitement and intellectual ferment surrounding the challenges of transforming organizational learning from a theoretical construct into a subject of rigorous empirical inquiry. Discussants and attendees will interact in a friendly, informal setting of talks, discussion groups, and hands on simulations. Pivotal scholars such as Karl Weick, Anne Huff, Jean Bartunek, Linda Argote, Mary Jo Hatch, and Hari Tsoukas have been invited in to dialogue around and provoke speculation on "Theory Development, Epistemological and Research Paradigms, and Meaning and Measurement".

Guidelines:

Prospective participants must submit a proposal of participation not more than 100 words in length. We invite proposals, which proffer theoretical or methodological challenges. They might include an organized symposium, panel discussion, and research software demonstration, or indicate your area of interest that you wish to explore with colleagues. Empirical work is recommended.
