Film Studies is a popular program that has a clientele of numerous enthusiastic students who actively support film-related initiatives on campus. Currently, there are about 45 Film Studies minors. Various departments offer film or film-related courses (East Asian Languages and Literatures; Classical and Semitic Languages and Literatures; Romance, German, and Slavic Languages and Literatures; American Studies; English). Faculty and students worked together to make events such as the visit of world-renowned directors Sidney Pollack in March 2004 and Bertrand Tavernier in April 2005 genuine successes. Of the more recent events, a lecture of French filmmaker Jacques Richard on Henri Langlois and the Cinématèque Francaise (April 2006) should be mentioned.
