Laboratory

The REU Program has been able to help fund the renovation of a campus laboratory/classroom which is now fully equipped for laboratory molecular biology as well as computational analyses and bioinformatics.

Bell Hall, Room 207

This newly renovated laboratory/classroom became fully functional in the Fall of 2003. The construction work and furnishings were funded by the university. The Howard Hughes Medical Institute helped provide equipment for the laboratory including a DNA sequencer, -80 freezer, a PCR thermocycler, gel electrophoresis apparatus, pipettors, water baths, almost everything needed for molecular biology. The room is also equipped with a high-speed wireless internet computer network, a set of laptop computers, and linked LCD projection. There are three oval tables, with each one seats 8 students, so that teams of four students can work together on projects.

The room is now fully equipped for laboratory molecular biology as well as computational analyses and bioinformatics. It is now being used for lecturing and laboratory work in a variety of courses and workshops. The room is also used for faculty development seminars and discussions as described in Faculty Involvement, as well as the REU orientation workshop.
