Subaward Description Our purpose here is to guide principal investigators (PIs) through the necessary procedures for entering into a subaward with another institution. Subwards are used when the intent is to work collaboratively with another organization or institution to help carry out the scope of work objectives included in GWU’s prime award from the sponsoring agency. Each subrecipient will have its own PI responsible for programmatic decision making. Subrecipients are subject to the compliance requirements and the subaward terms and conditions that flow down from the GWU prime award. In addition states, local governments, and non-profit subrecipients with annual federal funding in excess of $500k are subject to the audit requirements in OMB A-133 GW serves as the legal awardee with the primary responsibility that all obligations of the award are met. A subaward may be referred to as a subgrant or subagreement. In all cases the purpose is to work collaboratively with another entity to carry out the objectives for which the program funding has been awarded. Did you know that subawards are issued in the entity’s name, not to an individual or consultant? Due to the collaborative nature of the work being performed, and to meet good business practice standards, it is necessary to evaluate the subrecipients proposed costs as being fair and reasonable for the work proposed. Please follow the proper steps when entering into a subaward as outlined in the Subaward Proposal Checklist also located at the Pre-award Forms section at this site. All of the related forms can be accessed by clicking the links within each form. Page Updated: July 12, 2006 |
