Information about Cost Sharing


“Cost Sharing” is an institution’s contribution to the total cost of a sponsored program. These are costs not covered by the sponsor and, as explained below, may include: cash, equipment, in-kind faculty time or indirect costs covered by a university. Cost sharing at GW on grants and contracts reflects the University's contribution to the costs of doing a sponsored research program and requires the approvals of appropriate offices in the University. Sponsors sometimes expect universities to demonstrate a commitment to a program by providing some form of cost sharing. GW strives to cost share only when it is mandated.
