Bachelor of Arts in Religion
The following requirements must be fulfilled:

  1. Prerequisite courses:
    • REL 001: Introduction to World Religions: West
    • REL 002: Introduction to World Religions: East
  2. Required courses:
    • REL 009: Hebrew Scriptures
    • REL 010: New Testament
    • REL 101: Theories in the Study of Religion
  3. Four courses (12 upper level credit hours) in one of the following traditions:
    • Christianity
    • Hinduism
    • Islam
    • Judaism
    • Buddhism
  4. Three electives (9 credit hours of which 6 hours must be upper level)
  5. The general curriculum requirements stated under the Columbian School of Arts & Sciences

It is recommended that students include the study of foreign languages in their undergraduate program, including a language crucial to one of the religious traditions. All students expecting to enter graduate school are urged to study French or German.

Special Honors are awarded to students who meet the requirements stated under University regulations and who complete an honors thesis by enrolling in REL 191 (Senior Honors Thesis).

Minor in Religion
The following requirements must be fulfilled:
A minimum of 18 credit hours in religion, of which at least 6 hours must be taken as upper-level courses (i.e. courses above the 101 level). The minor program will be developed in consultation with the departmental advisor. Rel 101 is strongly recommended for all participating students.
