If you encounter difficulties opening the Transcript Request form in your internet browser, please try upgrading your Acrobat Reader, or save it to your computer and open it from your hard drive.


No transcripts of any kind will be furnished for students who have outstanding financial obligations, including library and parking fees.

Transcripts can only be mailed or picked up in person, and only complete transcripts will be provided. The University does not issue partial records.

General Information & Ordering Instructions

Official Transcripts

You can request your official transcript :
  1. Online using the Transcripts Express service available through GWeb

  2. In Person, in the Office of the Registrar

  3. By Mail using the transcript request form

  4. By Fax using the credit card payment form and the transcript request form

  5. By Third-Party Pick Up, when you make a written, signed request to permit someone else to pick up your transcript for you


Online via Transcripts Express

Official transcripts may be requested online through the Transcripts Express service in the GWeb Information System (To get to GWeb, login to the myGW portal, and click on the gweb info system link.). Please note: transcripts ordered online are printed the next business day following the date ordered. This option is only available to students and alumni who have a GWid and PIN. Alumni who attended prior to Fall 1982 cannot use the online system to request a transcript.

If you are requesting National or International Expedited Service online through Transcripts Express, and you are ordering multiple copies of your transcripts going to the same address, please call our office first to speak with a Student Services Representative.

In order to access Transcripts Express:

  1. Click on Student Records and Registration
  2. Click on Student Records Information Menu
  3. Select Transcripts
  4. Choose Request Official Transcript

Be sure to view your Unofficial Transcript through GWeb before ordering any Official Transcripts. If you are waiting for grades to be posted or degrees to be awarded, do not order an Official Transcript until you see that information reflected on your Unofficial Transcript.

Payment with a credit card (mastercard and visa only) is required when ordering transcripts online.

If you have a form or attachment that must accompany your Official Transcript, do not use the online system. Please refer to our other methods of ordering transcripts.

Requests In Person

Official transcripts may be requested in person in the Office of the Registrar @ Colonial Central, on the Ground Floor of the Marvin Center at 800 21st St NW. The transcript request form is available in Colonial Central.

Same-day transcripts requested in person will only be issued to the student.

Payment is required at the time of request. A valid GW or government issued identification is also required.

Acceptable forms of payment for requests made in person include:

  • GWorld
  • Checks
  • Money Orders
  • Cash receipts from the Cashier's Office
  • Credit Cards (mastercard and visa only)

Requests By Mail

Official transcripts may be requested through the mail. Click here for the transcript request form.

The transcript request form must have a valid signature on the signature line or the request will not be processed. Furthermore, payment must accompany the transcript request or the request will not be processed. For transcripts being sent outside of the US, please provide a contact name, phone number and email address (if available).

Acceptable forms of payment for requests made through the mail include:

  • Checks
  • Money Orders
  • Credit Cards (mastercard and visa only)

Please do not mail or fax duplicate transcript requests without first speaking to a Student Services Representative to determine if a repeat request is necessary. A repeat request that has not been previously discussed with our office will most likely result in duplication of both the transcript services provided and charges to your credit card.

Requests By Fax

Official transcripts may be requested by fax. Click here for the transcript request form.

The transcript request form must have a valid signature on the signature line or the request will not be processed. Furthermore, payment must accompany the transcript request or the request will not be processed. For transcripts being sent outside of the US, please provide a contact name, phone number and email address (if available).

Faxed requests for transcripts must be accompanied by a completed credit card payment form (mastercard and visa only). Fax all documents to (202) 994-0282.

Please do not mail or fax duplicate transcript requests without first speaking to a Student Services Representative to determine if a repeat request is necessary. A repeat request that has not been previously discussed with our office will most likely result in duplication of both the transcript services provided and charges to your credit card.

Requests By Third-Party Pick Up

To have another party pick up your transcript, you must provide our office with:

  1. A signed letter of authorization which includes your name, your ID number, your signature, and the name of the person who will be picking up the transcript.

  2. A copy of your GW or government issued ID.

  3. Appropriate payment for the transcript.

The letter of authorization may then be faxed to the Office of the Registrar at (202) 994-3445.

Transcripts requested by Third-Party Pick Up will be marked as issued to the student and will not list the third-party.

Letters of authorization may also be submitted to the Office of the Registrar @ Colonial Central at the same time the transcript is being picked up if the letter contains an original signature.

Unofficial Transcripts

Unofficial transcripts are available to students online (for viewing only) through the GWeb Information System. (To get to GWeb, login to the myGW portal, and click on the gweb info system link.) The online copy of the unofficial transcript is available for current students and alumni with academic history after 1982. Alumni may be able to view their unofficial transcripts, but will need their GWid and pin (click here to access the GWid Retrieval Page).

A student may also obtain a free copy of their unofficial transcript from the Office of the Registrar @ Colonial Central by making a request in person. Only one copy per day is available for free. A valid GW or government issued ID is required.

Multiple copies (more than one copy in a business day) can also be obtained in the Office of the Registrar @ Colonial Central for a small fee. Please review our pricing information for current prices. Requests for unofficial transcripts made by mail will follow the same pricing structure as requests for official transcripts.

Note: Unofficial transcripts obtained in the Office of the Registrar are issued to alumni and current students only.

Mail Requests

1. Regular Service: $5.00 per Transcript

Regular Service means your transcript request will be processed within 5 business days of receipt, and then mailed first-class USPS mail.

2. Rush Service: $10.00 per Transcript

Rush Service means your transcript request will be processed within 1 business day of receipt, and then mailed first-class USPS mail.

3. National Expedited Service: $10.00 per Transcript + $15.00 per Destination

National Expedited Service means your transcript will be processed within 1 business day of receipt, and then mailed express carrier next day air. Please allow an additional 2-3 business days for P.O. Box Addresses.
Note: Next Day service is not available in all locations. In areas where this service is unavailable, Second Day service will be used.

If you are requesting National or International Expedited Service online through Transcripts Express, and you are ordering multiple copies of your transcripts going to the same address, please call our office first to speak with a Student Services Representative.

4. International Expedited Service: $10.00 per Transcript + $35.00 per Destination

International Expedited Service follows the same processing time as National Expedited Service. Please allow up to 10 business days for delivery. If available, please provide a contact name and phone number.

If you are requesting National or International Expedited Service online through Transcripts Express, and you are ordering multiple copies of your transcripts going to the same address, please call our office first to speak with a Student Services Representative.


Pick Up Requests

In Office Same Day Service: $10.00 per Transcript

In Office Same Day Service means your transcript can be picked up in the Office of the Registrar @ Colonial Central, on the Ground Floor of the Marvin Center at 800 21st St NW, on the same business day (your form must be submitted in person).

  • Multiple copies (more than one in the same business day): $1.00 per copy of transcript

Investigator Requests

Investigators seeking a student transcript must provide the Office of the Registrar @ Colonial Central with a letter of release signed by the student being investigated.  The letter should include information to adequately identify the student, such as student’s name during attendance; dates of attendance; degrees awarded; date of birth; ID number/social security number; etc.

Either the original or a copy of the letter must be submitted to our office for our records.  There is a $5.00 charge for each transcript requested.

In addition, investigators must complete our Investigator form and show their agency-issued ID before the student transcript will be released to them.
