Continuing students may register for classes on GWeb at myGW as indicated below except for a few selected programs, consortium courses, closed classes, or classes requiring departmental or instructor approval (see Functions Not Available on GWeb for registration information regarding these classes).

New students who have been admitted to degree programs for the upcoming summer session should check with their school for information about orientation and registration.

New visiting (non-degree) students must first be admitted to the university; once accomplished, visiting students may also register on GWeb at myGW at the appropriate published times. Please see the Office of University Students for information on applying as a non-degree student. Visiting (non-degree) students are eligible to enroll at GW if they are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and are in good standing at another institution, if applicable.

Summer course registration for all sessions will be open to all students on March 30, 2009.

The GWeb info system will be available from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm, including weekends. On the days of incoming freshman registration in July 2009, the system will have limited availability:

  • Thursday, July 9: 2pm-6pm
  • Friday, July 10: 8am-12pm
  • Saturday, July 11: 11am-3pm

Occasionally the system may be made unavailable during regular hours for system maintenance and upgrades. These periods will be advertised in advance on the Office of the Registrar homepage.

Late Registration/Program Adjustment

Late registration takes place from May 18, 2009 through May 25, 2009 for Session I and July 6, 2009 through July 13, 2009 for Session II during the same hours of operation as noted in the General Information section. During the late registration period, an $80 late fee is assessed for any initial registration.

Beginning with the first week of classes, students who wish to add a course(s) and drop a course(s) as an even exchange may do so without financial loss if these transaction requests are made during the same calendar week for an equal number of credit hours. Please be advised that individual program adjustments may incur tuition charges and/or fees if they are not even exchanges, or involve courses other than those at the Foggy Bottom or Mount Vernon campuses. Please consult the section on tuition and fees for details.

In cases of authorized withdrawals from courses, refunds of 85% of tuition and fees will be made for courses dropped within the first seven calendar days of the start of a session. No refund will be made for courses dropped thereafter. The refund rate was 75% until Summer 2008.

Off-campus students should visit the GW Near You web site for specific information pertaining to their programs and refunds.

Note: University withdrawal and refund policies do not apply to Summer Abroad courses. Please check the web site for specific policies associated with these programs.
