This page exists to address some of the more common inquiries that the Office of the Registrar receives from alumni of the university.
GWids
In 2006 the university began using assigned GWid numbers to replace the use of social security numbers. The GWid is a 'G' followed by eight digits.
All alumni who have attended since Fall 1982 were assigned a GWid in the university records system. To learn your GWid number you may use the GWid Retrieval Tool or contact the ISS Help Desk at (202) 994-5530 for assistance. The GWid number is required to use the online GWeb Information System.
Alumni who attended prior to Fall 1982 will not have an assigned GWid number. Please include whatever student ID number you used at the same with all requests. This may be your social security number, a six-digit ID number, or another alternate ID. Alumni with ANY attendance prior to Fall 1982 should not use the GWeb Information System because prior records are not electronic and only complete records can be provided.

Transcripts
Transcripts can only be provided by mail or in-person. They cannot be faxed or e-mailed.
Official Transcripts can be requested by mail, fax, in-person at the Office of the Registrar @ Colonial Central, or online in certain instances. Academic records beginning with the Fall 1982 semester are electronic and may be requested online via the GWeb Information System. Alumni with ANY academic records prior to Fall 1982 should not use GWeb to request a transcript because prior records are not electronic and only complete records can be provided. Please use the Transcript Request Form and submit it by mail or fax with appropriate payment based on the level of service you are requesting.
Unofficial Transcripts can be requested by mail, fax, or in-person at the Office of the Registrar @ Colonial Central. One in-person unofficial transcipt per day will be provided for free. Additional copies cost $1 each. Requests made for Unofficial Transcripts by mail or fax require the same payment as requests made for Official Transcripts, and the request for Unofficial copies should be clearly noted on the Transcript Request Form.
Requests made in-person at the Office of the Registrar @ Colonial Central for pre-Fall 1982 records may take up to one hour to fulfill, as our Student Information Services staff will need to produce the records from the university's physical archives. Same-day requests received after 4:00pm cannot be guaranteed.
Alumni with complete records beginning Fall 1982 may request Official Transcripts and view Unofficial Transcripts online through the GWeb Information System. If you do not know your GWid number, required for access to GWeb, please use the GWid Retrieval Tool or contact the ISS Help Desk at (202) 994-5530 for assistance. The ISS Help Desk can also provide information on resetting your PIN number.
