OPPORTUNITIES FOR EMPLOYMENT AND FINANCIAL AID

1. Work Study

There are a host of opportunities available in the form of work study for incoming students. However it is imperative that the individual fill out a FAFSA form and qualify for support in the form of work study. The deadlines may differ between the institution of learning and the loan provider. The GWU website lists May 1st. The Federal Government has listed its deadline as June 30th. The earlier the submission of documents the better. YOU MUST MEET THE GWU DEADLINE.

The priority deadline for completing your application for federal Stafford and/or alternative loan funding for the Fall semester is May 1st. Completing your application by this date will ensure that your loan funds will arrive at the beginning of the semester.

2. Federal Stafford Loan (2007-2008)

Step 1: Complete the 2007-2008 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA.) GW's code is 001444.

Step 2: Complete the 2007-2008 GW Loan Questionnaire (Note: a GW Loan Questionnaire must be submitted each time a Stafford Loan is requested).

Step 3: Federal Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note - Please review the instructions below:
If your Stafford Loan for the 2007-2008 Academic Year will be the FIRST Stafford Loan borrowed for attendance at GW, you MUST submit a completed Master Promissory Note along with the completed Loan Questionnaire.
Continuing graduate students who received a Stafford Loan for the 2007-2008 Academic Year for attendance at GW do not need to submit another Master Promissory Note.
(Note: During processing, additional documentation may be required. [The Financial Aid Office] will contact you in writing should this need arise.)

Also note that you will be considered for a work study position only if financially eligible for the program. This is if you are a financial aid student and your loan balance does not meet or exceed your tuition and fee requirements. Regardless of whether you are granted work study positions, when you arrive in the DC area you will see the necessity of obtaining employment for self support. The George Washington University offers a wealth of information to steer you in the right direction. Please feel free to navigate the main university website and use it as a resource. The career center website includes job listings that are in the DC area at large and not necessarily work study positions.
