Students in support of the inaugural PSTD efforts, 2003-2004
The following students participated in the new or refurbished courses this year, participated in the organization and presentation of the PSTD Seminar series, participated in the organization and presentation of the CAAPS 04 Student Conference and of the "Presidents for Peace" student debate, and participated in active and spiritual support of the PSTD Program in response to their university's decision in March 2004 to end funding for courses and administration of the program. We appreciate their hard work and diligent efforts, not only in their academic pursuits in PSTD, but in their willingness and ability to take active roles in helping the university community recognize and support its own too-neglected program in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution. We thank them all.

If you would like to support the GWU Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution Program (PSTD) ...
You might write letters to the administration of the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences, or to the administration of the university itself.
Or you might choose to support the program financially. Although, as of March 2004, the university has decided not to fund the courses or administration of the program, they have said that their decision is strictly budgetary, that it is not a reflection of their assessment of the value of the program nor a reflection of their assessment of the new courses and seminar series in 2003-2004. To the contrary, we have been told, it is only financially that the program is not supported. However, were funds donated explicitly for the PSTD program, for teaching and for administration, then the courses would be taught, the seminar series would be presented, and the program administered so that, among other things, students would be able to explore, examine, study and appreciate Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution as understood within the Arts and Humanities.
If you would like to make a donation to the university so that it will help fund the PSTD Program, there are many ways to do so. They are explained at the university's "Giving to GW" web-page [http://www.gwu.edu/alumni/giving/index.html]. When sending your donation, please remember that the university states: "you may designate your donation to a program or initiative that has special meaning for you." And so, to make sure that your funds go to the support of the PSTD Program you need to explicitly state that the funds should go to the teaching and administration of the PSTD Program. You should even make it explicit that you wish the funds to support the program for 2004-2005, if you would like to see the courses taught and the seminar series presented in the coming academic year.
On behalf of the Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution Program, please accept our thanks for your support in whatever form it is given. While it is not clear that the future includes that we, the Co-Directors, will be administering the program or teaching its courses, please be assured that we feel that its existence, support and nurtured development are needed now more than ever.
In peace,
Stiv Fleishman
