Frequently Asked Questions
What is Panhel?
The Panhellenic Association is the governing body for all of the NPC
sororities on the G.W. campus. Each sorority appoints a delegate to The
Panhellenic Council who represents her chapter by voting on issues facing
the Greek Community. As soon as a woman becomes a new member of a
sorority, she becomes a member of "Panhel." Throughout the year,
delegates from each sorority meet and plan activities involving every
sorority on campus. In addition, Panhel sponsors many activities with
other campus organizations in order to promote campus-wide recognition of
the Greek Community.
What is Recruitment?
The formal recruitment period, previously known as
rush, provides
you with an opportunity to visit all seven Panhellenic sororities on
George Washington's campus so that you can decide if Greek life is for
you. As the week progresses, the number of events that you atttend
will decrease, as the length of each increases, to afford sisters and
potential new members the greatest possible opportunity to get to know
one another.
What is a Rho Chi?
During recruitment, each potential new member will be assigned a
particular Recruitment Counselor (Rho Chi) who will advise her during the
recruitment process. Each Rho Chi has been specially selected from the
Greek Community for her qualities of caring, understanding, and
confidentiality. She disaffilliates herself from her sorority for the
duration of recruitment in order to give you the best impartial and
objective advice. Your Rho Chi will explain the recruitment process and
be available to address any questions.
