Do I get a student ID card?Yes. Once you are admitted and registered for courses, you can obtain a Gworld Card, the official I.D. for The George Washington University. All new students receive the first card free of charge. A current U.S. driver' s license, current passport, or other official picture identification must be presented before the Gworld Card will be issued. However, if you intend to transfer the credits, you should first check with that institution to determine what credits they will accept.back to the top Is there a registration or application fee?There is a non-refundable$25 application fee for all non-degree applicants unless you had a previous GW registration or you are a GW employee.back to the top Is it possible to make adjustments to my schedule after the deadlines?You may make changes to your schedule after the start of the semester for compelling reasons. University policy assesses a prorated financial penalty for any reduction in total credits once the semester has begun. When this occurs due to circumstances beyond a student's control, a written petition and documentation in the form of a doctor's note, employer's letter, and so forth, may be required for any academic or financial exceptions to be granted. A written petition and any attendant documentation should be sent to the Office of University Students as soon as possible. When documentation is complete, the student will be notified promptly of the decision on his/her petition.back to the top Is there financial aid for non-degree students?No. Financial aid is not available for non-degree students. You may be eligible to received alternative loans. This form is available in the Office of University Students, the Office of the Registrar, and throughout departmental offices on campus. Please note that the fee for auditing a course is the same as taking it for a grade.back to the top Will I receive grades and a transcript for my non-degree courses? Where do I request one?Yes. You will receive grades and a transcript for all courses taken as a non-degree student. Please check with the course descriptions or with the specific department.back to the top Do I need to take any placement exams?If you are registering for mathematics courses, their department recommends that you take a placement exam in order to assess what level course you should take. If you are registering for language courses, their departments require that you take a placement exam if you plan to take courses above the introductory level. Please contact the appropriate department for details.back to the top Will non-degree courses transfer if I want to apply to a degree program at GW or another institution?This depends on the department or other institution to which you will be applying. At GW, each department allows a certain number of credit hours which may be transferred into a degree program should you be accepted into the program and have acceptable grades. For undergraduates, most departments accept 45 credit hours. For graduates, most departments accept 9 credit hours. Please contact the specific departments for details.back to the top Do I need to submit my transcript in order to take classes as a non-degree student?No. You do not need to submit transcripts unless you are a high school student.back to the top How do I know which classes are undergraduate level and which ones are graduate level?Courses numbered 001 to 199 are designed for undergraduate students. Courses numbered 200-299 are primarily for graduate students.back to the top What if I have not taken the TOEFL or IELTS exams? (For international students only)You will need to provide proof of English proficiency.
