A Note from the Dean

The George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs is proud to present the National Security Studies Program (NSSP) for senior military officers and civilian professionals at the Department of Defense and other agencies. Our commitment to this important program is a reflection of our dedication to:

  • Educating and training current and future leaders in the defense and related security fields.
  • Developing skills and tools for practitioners in the policy arena.
  • Providing analysis and assessment of critical national and international security policy issues

The GW NSSP is a proven, top-quality program that provides the substantive expertise, analytical methods, and management techniques necessary for dealing with an increasingly complex national and international security arena.

The Elliott School's distinctive approach to the GW NSSP combines a focused, intergrated program of study led by some of the world's leading experts, with a unique and rigorous program of management skills courses. This combination of foundational knowledge, analyical techniques, and management tools will enable national security professionals to make sound and informed judgements in today's dynamic security enviornment.

The program employs a combination of practical exercises, training in management and decision-making techniques, practice and analytical feedback, guest lectures and site visits. With this multifaceted approach, the Elliott School will ensure that GW NSSP participants further develop the decision-making skills needed for national security leadership in the 21st century.
