1st Mountain Division (Bundeswehr 2nd Army Corps):
The Division is a very well trained elite formation . . . In
case of a clash with our forces, one may expect the toughest possible resistance
not only of larger units but also of smaller groups and individual soldiers
. . . . The moral and political disposition of the Division is extremely
negative toward us.
24th Mechanized Division (U.S. Army 7th Corps):
The Division is a rather well trained formation . . . . Within
the 7th Corps, it has ranked first in a competition for the highest rate
of service commitments.
A thorough anticommunist indoctrination must be expected as
a result of the influence of the former commander, Gen. Walker. . . . The
moral and political disposition of the division is to be considered as
extremely negative [toward us].
1st Airborne Division (Bundeswehr 2nd Army Corps):
The Division consists almost 100 per cent of volunteers . .
. As far as their political disposition is concerned, these soldiers are
ready to use any means in fighting communism. In case of a clash with our
forces, one can expect the most ferocious combat imaginable, even resort
to treacherous methods.
