What is RSS?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It is an XML-based format for distributing or syndicating web content. RSS is a great way for you to be alerted when new content appears on your favorite web sites. Instead of visiting four different sites four times a day, you can have the ability to go to one location for all the information you want.

Why subscribe to the GW News Center’s feed?

By subscribing to the GW News Center’s RSS feed you can receive updates and notifications about university events, university articles, and press releases. This way, the content is now coming to you. If you want information from the GW News Center and another favorite site, you will now have one place where each updated story or event is sent for you to read, save, or delete. It is updated every hour.

How do I subscribe?

First, it is important to ensure you are using a compatible web browser. If you click on the subscribe button RSS Icon, and nothing but code comes up in your window, then your browser does not have the capability to read an RSS feed. You need to use one of the following browsers: Internet Explorer 7 (Please note that GW applications currently use IE6), Safari 3, or Firefox 2 (all free downloads). Once your web browser is set up, you should be able to view the content of an RSS feed (try it again now that you are using a different browser RSS Icon).

To subscribe to the GW News Center's RSS feed, you will need an RSS reader. This aggregator is almost like an email account where content from all your favorite websites is delivered. There are some different options for RSS aggregators, including Mac, Windows, or web-based. If this is your first time trying RSS, it is recommended to use a web-based reader, which are free and simple to download. Popular readers include: Bloglines, Google Reader, NewsIsFree, Yahoo.

Now that you have an RSS reader where your feeds can be delivered, it is time to subscribe to GW’s RSS Feed! Once you click on the subscribe button RSS Icon, you can copy and paste the address that comes up in your browser into the "add feeds" section of your RSS reader.
