FROM STRUGGLES TO SUCCESS, WOMEN CELEBRATE GENERATIONS OF STRENGTH
MARCH 2009
EVENT:?
From the first National Women's Rights Convention in Massachusetts in 1850 to the passage of the 19th amendment of the Constitution in 1920, women have been making history and creating significant changes for future generations. To honor their accomplishments and Women's History Month, The George Washington University has organized a monthlong series of activities.
Author and filmmaker Maryann Breschard will be among the many talented guests for GW's Women's History Month. "Running in Heels," her documentary on women, power, and politics, will be shown March 10, followed by a question and answer session. On March 30, Carlotta LaNier, the youngest member of Little Rock Nine, a group of African-American students who enrolled in Little Rock Central High School in 1957, will speak about being a woman of integrity and conviction during the civil rights movement.

BACKGROUND:
In addition to the schedule of events for Women's History Month, GW is organizing a monthlong diaper drive to benefit My Sister's Place, which provides exemplary programs for a diverse population of battered women and their children. Students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to drop off diapers, diaper wipes, and gift cards in their residence halls or to any sponsoring office. Colonial Challenge points will be awarded to houses that collect the most items. Colonial Challenge is a University-wide initiative that fosters team building and community spirit throughout the student body.
