COMPUTERWORLD NAMES THE GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY A 'BEST PRACTICES IN MOBILE AND WIRELESS' AWARDS PROGRAM HONOREE
GW Recognized by IDG's Computerworld for Strategic
Deployment of Mobile & Wireless Technologies
WASHINGTON - The George Washington University today announced it has been recognized as an honoree in Computerworld's "Best Practices in Mobile & Wireless" Awards Program. The award honors organizations that have applied exemplary mobile and wireless solutions to provide strategic advantage to their enterprise. GW received recognition for its achievement during a special awards ceremony at Computerworld's Mobile & Wireless World Conference, which was held from May 21-23, 2007, at The Ritz-Carlton Grande Lakes, Orlando, Fla.
"GW continues to deploy cutting-edge wireless communications systems to our students, faculty, and staff," said Ronald C. Bonig, interim vice president and chief information officer at The George Washington University. "Expanding wireless connectivity enables mobility for students and adds a dimension of flexibility to student learning."
A wide range of IT end-user companies and organizations responded to an initial "call for nominations," which was originally announced to multiple industry audiences, including Computerworld subscribers responsible for deploying strategic mobile and wireless technologies. Finalists were evaluated by a panel of judges based on case study submissions that profiled the company, its IT department and mobile and wireless challenges, as well as application deployment details, summaries of the key technology used and measurable solution outcomes.
"Companies recognized by Computerworld's Mobile & Wireless World Conference can be proud of the accomplishments of these talented IT professionals. Their hard work and dedication to the best practices in the mobile and wireless industry benefit their companies, employees, and customers alike," said Ron Milton, executive vice president, Computerworld.
GW was recognized for its best practices in establishing secure wireless networking for the University and protecting the network against external intrusions. To ensure the highest level of security and privacy when communicating wirelessly, GW has established a multi-faceted security approach that includes the use of Virtual Private Networks (VPN) and intrusion protection systems.
