Powell to Open 1957 E St., Deliver Policy Address

U.S. Secretary of State Colin L. Powell (MBA, '71) will travel one block from his Foggy Bottom office to celebrate the opening of 1957 E St. on Friday. He will deliver an address at Lisner Auditorium. Student tickets are sold out, but a closed-circuit feed will be available on J Street.

This week GW welcomes more than 2,000 fresh faces as they begin their college careers. Last Friday, the University held a special convocation (pictured at right) to welcome the Class of 2007.

University officials cut the ribbon on the newest option in GW’s slate of on-campus housing — Townhouse Row — Thursday afternoon. With its traditional-style facades and brick and stone construction, the eight attached student housing units along 23rd Street between F and G streets, seamlessly blends in with its historical Foggy Bottom surroundings. Students, faculty members, staff and parents are getting set for the 2003-04 academic year. With welcome events planned and prominent visitors such as Secretary of State Colin Powell, former Vice President Al Gore, businessmen Sumner Redstone and Warren Buffett, and entertainers Whoopi Goldberg and the Beach Boys scheduled for the fall semester, GW steps into the new academic year on strong footing.
