celebrations, focusing on the importance of serving the public

GW Celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr.
The University commemorated the dedication and spirit of the
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., with a series of events
in the last two weeks, including a birthday celebration, a
community service project in Southeast D.C., and an awards
ceremony honoring two GW students. READ

National Leader in Nonprofit Management Joins Faculty
When Sara Melendez was a young girl in New York City, her
mother earned a meager seamstress salary and could not
afford dental care. So the three Melendez children visited
a free dental clinic in the city. Melendezs faith community,
housed in a small storefront building in a Puerto Rican community,
also planted seeds of philanthropy for her. When somebody
lost a job or was sick, the congregation took up a collection.

I deal with just about everybody, says University
Archivist G. David Anderson. Students, members of the faculty
and the administration, as well as alumni and neighbors frequently
visit the archives offices on the seventh floor of Gelman
