Saluting Customer Service Jan. 29
The term red tape is derived from 18th-century
British government officials who customarily bound their files
together using red tape. Today it stands for the procedural
regulations that can make even the simplest tasks a nightmare.
On Jan. 29, however, the red tape will be coming down as members
from more than 35 departments at GW will cut through the bureaucracy
and celebrate customer service. READ

President Stephen Joel Trachtenberg has been chosen as the
2003 chair-elect of the District of Columbia Chamber of Commerce
(DCCC) Board of Directors, recognized for his business sense
and commitment to the viability of the District of Columbia.

Black Enterprise Ranks GW Among Top 50 Universities
In its review of the leading universities, The 50 Best
Colleges for African-Americans, Black Enterprise magazine
ranked The George Washington University 24th in the nation.
This marks an improvement from GWs previous 31st ranking.

GW Names John F. Skip Williams New University
Provost, Three Vice Presidents Promoted
University President Stephen Joel Trachtenberg has announced
the appointment of John F. Skip Williams, M.D.,
Ed.D., to the newly reinstated position of University provost
and the promotion of three other top administrators. Williams,
whose appointment was effective Jan. 1, becomes the first
person to serve as provost of GW in 14 years. READ
