Otolaryngology Technician
Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences
(Clinical Research Administration Major)
 
 


This program is open to the following U.S. Navy Otolaryngology Technicians:

  • Otolaryngology Technician – NEC 8446

Students in the major in Clinical Research Administration must successfully complete 124 credit hours, composed of the four components listed below.

Degree Requirements

    1. Advanced Standing for Otolaryngology Technician "C" School and Electives (60 credit hours)
      Upon registration in the program, 46 credit hours of advanced standing for successful completion of Otolaryngology Technician training are applied towards the degree. The student will be required to obtain 14 additional hours in this category (CLEP, DANTES, or other military credit may be acceptable).

    2. General Education Requirements (30 credit hours)
      General education course work must include:
      • 6 hours of English composition
      • 3 hours of mathematics (college algebra or higher course)
      • HSci 115 – Introductory Biostatistics for Health Science Professional (3 hours) or an  introductory statistics course
      • 6 hours of science
      • 12 hours of humanities/social sciences

      These requirements may be fulfilled by taking course work at community colleges or other accredited institutions of higher education. A limited number of credit hours may be granted for work completed through non-traditional methods, such as military service schools or CLEP or DANTES examinations.

      The English and mathematics requirements must be completed prior to entry into the program.

      The science requirement can be met by taking courses in any of the physical sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, physics, earth sciences, astronomy). (Note: Individuals interested in preparing for application to a physician assistant program will need at least 8-16 hours of chemistry. Check with the PA programs under consideration for specific requirements.)

      Examples of course work that would satisfy humanities/social science requirements include: American civilization, anthropology, art, classics, creative writing, economics, foreign language, geography and regional science, history, humanities, literature, journalism, music, philosophy, political science, psychology, religion, social sciences, speech and drama, and sociology. Course work in the physical sciences or technical or professional fields (e.g., business, engineering, and computer science) cannot be accepted towards humanities/social sciences requirements.

    3. Core Courses (15 credit hours)
      A selected 15 credit hours of course work from the list below provides a core knowledge base and competency and are required of all candidates for the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences:

      HSci 106 should be taken during the first semester of enrollment. HSci 191 is to be taken at the end of the course of study.

Admission Requirements


To be considered for admission, applicants must present at least 60 credits of college work (this includes credit awarded for military training). The applicant must have successfully completed 6 semester hours of English composition and 3 hours of college level mathematics (college algebra or higher).

Tuition and Fees


Tuition and fees for the Clinical Health Sciences program for the academic year 2006 - 2007 are:

  • Tuition – $385.00 per credit hour
  • Registration Fee – $35.00 per semester
  • Application Fee – $60.00 (one time fee submitted with application, waived for a graduate of another GW degree program).
  • Graduation Fee – $100.00 (payable on graduation)
