Scholarships

Presidential Arts Scholarships in Music
Open to all entering freshman. These five annual awards provided $15,000 in tuition remission, renewable for four years. Recipients of these awards need not major in music, but must register each semester for private lessons and large and small ensemble classes in the performing medium for which the scholarship was awarded. Awards based on auditions held February 2-3, 2008. Application required. See part II of the University's Admission Application. (Audition requirements)

George Steiner Scholarship in Music
Awarded to a music student selected by the department faculty. Awarded annually; renewable.

University Band Award
Open to any member of the University Band by audition. Recipients of these awards must participate in ensemble activities prescribed by the Director of Bands. Awards range form $500 to $1500 per semester; renewable. For further information, contact Prof. Benno P. Fritz at bpfritz@gwu.edu.

Prizes

Barry Manilow Endowed Prize in Music
Awarded annually to a student whose outstanding performance record and contributions to the department's programs generally merit such consideration.

Harmon Choral Prize
Established in 1986 in memory of Dr. Robert H. Harmon, director of choral activities form 1924 to 1964, by his brother Bishop Nolan Harmon and the Department of Music. Awarded annually to one or two students who have made outstanding contributions to the choral program.
