The excellence and international scope of the University's academic environment offers a kaleidoscope of intellectual stimuli for students. The Department of Music encourages participation in music programs by all students of the University, regardless of their major. In fact, more than 80 percent of the Department's enrollment is made up of students who are majoring in one of the more than 100 other fields of study offered by the University.

The George Washington University is a fully-accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music.

The University's central location in downtown Washington, D.C., a 10-minute walk from The White House and The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, provides yet another avenue of opportunity for students to take advantage of the city's rich cultural life. The Department's own facilities include an electronic and computer music lab, a pipe organ studio, an audio facility, and music library, in addition to classrooms, teaching studios and practice rooms.
