Muriel Von Villas, director of the GWU Vocal Theatre Workshop since 1986, stages student opera productions and teaches workshops in opera and musical theater. She has been a drama coach and stage director with the Washington National Opera Domingo/Cafritz Young Artists Program, guest professor at Taipei Conservatory in Taiwan, and visiting professor and stage director at George Mason University. Ms. Von Villas has staged over 200 operas for companies including Berkshire Opera, Natchez Opera, the Little Orchestra Society, Seagle Colony, Sri Lanka Opera Philharmonic, Gold Coast Opera, Boheme Opera, and was artistic and stage director for Opera International in Washington, DC. from 1994-2004. In 2006 she was a stage director with Martina Arroyo’s “Prelude to Performance” Young Artists Program in New York City. In the summer of 2007, Ms. Von Villas staged an opera program at Strathmore Hall for Opera International, taught an opera performance master class at the Washington National Opera Summer Camp, and she and Frank Conlon presented a six-week lecture on the “voice and singing” at the Smithsonian. Ms. Von Villas coaches and teaches voice in her studio in Falls Church, Virginia.
