Professor Rebecca Anstine Smith has enjoyed a distinguished career as a professional harpist and teacher for over fifteen years. Currently principal harpist of the National Gallery of Art Orchestra and the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra, her other orchestral credits include the Baltimore Symphony, National Symphony, John F. Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, Washington Civic Opera Orchestra, New World Players and the New York City Opera Orchestra at Wolf Trap. She also performed as a soloist for the 1991 National Conference of the American Harp Society and the 1992 National Flute Association Convention. Upon graduation from Dickinson College she studied with Jeanne Chalifoux at the Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University. For many summers she has studied with Alice Chalifoux at the Salzedo Summer Harp Colony in Camden, Maine and she spent the summer of 1976 at Tanglewood where she studied with Lucile Lawrence. In addition to teaching at GW, Prof. Smith teaches at the University of Maryland at College Park and has taught at the Shenandoah Conservatory of Music and Howard University.
