Dr. Ronit Seter studies twentieth-century music and specializes in Israeli art music. A contributor to the New Grove Dictionary, Second Edition and Grove Music Online (12 entries), she has published, in Hebrew and English, program notes, short articles, and a short book on Israeli composers. Her chapter titled “Israel” in Asian Composers in the 20 th Century (2002) —a historical survey of Israeli music —was commissioned by The Japan Federation of Composers through the Israel Composers League. Currently completing a biography of composer Mordecai Seter (1916-1994, a founding father of Israeli art music) commissioned by the Israel National Council of Culture and Art, she is also contributing to the forthcoming Jewish Women: A Comprehensive Historical Encyclopedia, and to the forthcoming editions of Encyclopedia Judaica and Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart. She has presented her work in guest lectures, colloquia, and international musicological conferences in Israel, Europe, and the United States, notably, in the annual meeting of the American Musicological Society (1997) and the International Musicological Society (2002).
Dr. Seter received both her BA and MA (1991) in musicology from Bar-Ilan University, Israel. She earned her Ph.D. at Cornell University (2004). She currently serves on the faculty of both the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University, and the Department of Music at the George Washington University.
