Professor Scarlett hails from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Dubbed an operatic soprano in the making by the
Toronto Star in 1994, she has gone on to fulfill the prophecy. In 1995, she was the winner of the Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition and returned to Philadelphia in 1996 to perform in concert with Maestro Pavarotti. In 1999 she was the Winner of the Mid-Atlantic Region Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and a National finalist. Prof. Scarlett is accumulating a scrapbook of good reviews. According to The Washington Post, she was a standout in the cast when she debuted in the role of Dido in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas at the Maryland Opera Studio in 1996. Her voice is essentially the dramatic soprano needed for the great emotional scenes, the reviewer wrote, but she also has the agility for the tricky runs in "Whence Could So Much Virtue Spring?" Also in 1998, in a performance of Faure's Requiem with the National Symphony Orchestra at the National Cathedral, the Post noted, the choral singing and that of Scarlett...were marvels of consummate phrasing, diction, and expression. More recently she was heard in FrimalFest at Mount Vernon Opera series, where the Post described her voice as "radiant and enchanting" Prof. Scarlett has been featured in the following: the role of Clara in Porgy and Bess with Opera Illinois in January 2000; Fatal Song at the Maryland Opera Studio as well as at the Japanese Embassy; Lee Hoiby's Italian Lesson; and Winnipeg's productions of Carousel, Say it With Music, and Cinderella at Rainbow Stage. She has performed annual recitals for CBS radio and television and MTN. She also appeared with the Brandon Orchestra in Mozart's Requiem and Haydnís Mass in D. She toured Western Canada in 1992 as the Young Artist Winner. She has won the Winnipeg Mozart Competition as well as numerous awards, including two silver medals for superior work in the field of voice. In 1995, she took part in A Night of Music, a concert of spirituals and Schubert and Mozart songs performed by Caribbean artists. She has performed with the York and Oakville Symphony Orchestras and the Winnipeg Youth Orchestra. In 1997, Prof. Scarlett performed opera excerpts in Chiara, Italy, and then in 1998 she returned to Italy to perform with Orchestra Internationale dí Italia in their closing concert of the symphonic season. The concert took place at the Teatro dellí Aquila in Fermo, Italy. Press reports of the engagement commented on her "beautiful and suggestive voice," particularly adapted to the program of Gershwin and Bernstein songs, and her sublime execution of "Summertime."
