University Symphony Orchestra

The University Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Nancia D'Alimonte , rehearses Monday and Wednesday evenings, from 7.30 - 9.30 pm. The orchestra will rehearse and perform a wide array of music including current as well as traditional orchestral repertoire, often featuring soloists from within the ensemble, the faculty and the professional community. Orchestra performances consist of one fall and two spring concerts and also will feature the solo competition winner on the second spring concert. Performances are in Lisner Auditorium.
Membership in the orchestra is made up from the varied and talented GWU community and is not limited to those only taking music classes and/or registered as a music major. All are encouraged to audition.
AUDITIONS: Held during the first week of fall classes. Subsequent auditions throughout the academic year will be by appointment only. Requirements: Two excerpts (your choice), in contrasting styles, which demonstrates one's technical and musical proficiency. I want you to play your best and to feel comfortable, i.e. not nervous about this (it is best to warm up in the morning for a few minutes the day of, as you will play much better at the audition). Sign-ups for NEW players* will be posted outside B-143 (by August 11th) and will take place September 3rd & 4th between 3.00 - 8.00 pm. (both days).
*ALL WOODWIND AND BRASS PLAYERS must audition this fall (regardless if you played with the orchestra last spring). String players who wish to move up in their seating must also audition.
Rehearsals begin Monday September 8th at 7.30 pm. in B-120 Phillips Hall (lower level).
Concerts are scheduled for November 16, 2008 (Lisner), February 1, 2009 (Lisner) and April 19, 2009 (Lisner).
