The Marie C. Malaro Excellence in Research and Writing Award
Each year up to three graduate students are honored for excellence in research and writing in the field of Museum Studies. The writing submissions are in fulfillment of the writing requirement for the Master of Arts in Museum Studies and Museum Studies Certificate. After presenting their paper topics at the annual Marie C. Malaro Symposium, each recipient receives a small monetary award of $100 and a certificate.
Selection Process
To be considered for the Marie C. Malaro Excellence in Research and Writing Award, the writing requirement must be submitted by April 1. Winners are selected by a special committee of the Museum Studies Program. The papers are judged on the quality of both research and writing. Paper topics must be related to the field of Museum Studies. Winners will be notified by an email from the Director of the Museum Studies Program and their names will be posted to the Museum Studies website and listserv.
Award Ceremony and Symposium
Each year, recipients of the award present their papers at the annual Marie C. Malaro Symposium. The symposium is open to students, faculty and guests. The student presentations are followed by a lecture by a prominent guest speaker on a subject of current interest in the museum profession and the presentation of the awards.
