General Program Requirements

General Requirements: Master's Degree

Forty-two total credit hours of work in museum, academic and internship courses.

One course = three credit hours.

• 15 credit hours of museum studies courses

• 15 credit hours of academic core courses

• 6 credit hours of internship training

• 6 credit hours of electives

• Satisfactory completion of the Museum Studies/Academic core comprehensive exams.

• Satisfactory fulfillment of the Graduate Writing Requirement.

Time Limitation

The Museum Studies Program adheres to the time limitation guidelines set forth by the Columbian College of Arts & Sciences of The George Washington University. A student has four years to complete the requirements leading to a Master's degree.

Eighteen total credit hours of work in museum, academic and internship courses. Most courses are 3 credit hours each.

• 12 credit hours of class room work.

• 6 credit hours of internship training.

• Satisfactory fulfillment of the Graduate Writing Requirement.

Time Limitation

Certificate candidates are expected to complete their prescribed studies within one calendar year. Exceptions to this rule will be made on an individual basis.

 

General Requirements: Distance Education Certificate in Museum Collections Management and Care

• 12 credit hours of class room work.
  

Time Limitation

Distance Education Certificate candidates are expected to complete their prescribed studies within four consecutive semesters.
