Battleship Missouri Memorial

On September 2, 1945 the USS Missouri was the site of Japan’s official surrender to the United States and the end of WWII.  It was decommissioned in 1955 but re-commissioned in 1986 and deployed to the Persian Gulf during the Gulf War (1991).  Upon completion of its mission, it was decommissioned a second time in 1992.  The USS Missouri Memorial Association worked to find a home for the decommissioned ship.  On January 29, 1999, on the 54th anniversary of its launching, the Battleship Missouri Memorial opened to the public in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
