Edward Berkowitz
Professor of History
Professor Berkowitz writes on
American social welfare policy. His books include: Disabled Policy, America's
Welfare State , and Mr. Social Security-the Life of Wilbur J. Cohen.
In 1998 and 1999, he has published two books: a history of the Institute of
Medicine, and a history of the Medical Follow-up Agency, both with the National
Academy Press. In 2003 the University of Wisconsin press published his book
titled Robert Ball and the Politics of Social Security. His current
research projects include interview for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid
Services on the Medical Catastrophic Coverage Act of 1988 and a book on the
1970s, under contract to Columbia University Press.
