Lance Hoffman
Distinguished Research Professor of Computer Science;
Founder and Senior Staff Researcher, Cyberspace Security Policy and Research Institute
Professor Hoffman  is known for his pioneering research on computer security and risk analysis, and for his interdisciplinary work in computer privacy issues. His recent research includes Internet voting, developing the privacy policy for an electronic payments system and carrying out risk analyses for telemedicine privacy and security.  Hoffman has spoken and written extensively about Internet voting and computer security, including a paper titled “Internet Voting for Public Officials: Introduction” (Communications of the ACM, January 2001) and a presentation “Internet Voting: Not Ready for Prime Time (Yet)” (January 2001).  Hoffman is in charge of GW’s computer security and information assurance program in computer science. He also serves as a technical and strategic advisor to security- and privacy-oriented corporations.  In 2000, he served on the Advisory Committe on Online Access and Security of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.
