impact of a Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) on Latin America and
individual economic sectors is the subject of an international conference
hosted by The George Washington University Center for Latin American
Issues (CLAI).

speakers include U.S. Congressman Rubén Hinojosa, D-Texas;
Miguel Angel Rodríguez, former president of Costa Rica; Hector
Marquez, director, Trade and NAFTA Office, Embassy of Mexico; Jose
Nino, CEO, Central American Business Coalition; and other trade

GW’s
Center for Latin American Issues was established in November 1998 to encourage
debate on major political, economic and social issues affecting Latin America
and Latin American-United States relations; to stimulate the preparation of
scholarly publications and articles about Latin America; to conduct educational
training programs that utilize the unique resources of the University and of
other institutions in Washington, D.C.; and to expand GW’s Latin American
Program.
