MISS AMERICA, ERIKA HEROLD, TO JOIN GW STUDENTS

FOR NATIONAL MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY
OCTOBER 26

WASHINGTON – The George Washington University Department of Community Service has enlisted 150 GW volunteers to take part in National Make a Difference Day. Joining University students, faculty and staff for this day of community service will be reigning Miss America, Erika Harold. Harold will take part in service at the Northwest Settlement House, 448 Ridge Street, NW, Washington, D.C., Saturday, October 26 from 10:45 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

“GW has participated in Make A Difference Day for more than five years and it is a

great opportunity for GW community members to be part of a national day of service in an effort to strengthen our communities and ourselves,” said Timothy Miller, assistant director of student activities for community service.

In addition to working with the Northwest Settlement House, GW volunteers will also be involved with For Love of Children Mini-Olympics, D.C. Parks and Recreation, Community Harvest, D.C. Central Kitchen and Christian Communities Group Home.

Known as “a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors,” Make A Difference Day was created by USA WEEKEND Magazine and is held annually the fourth Saturday of every October.

GW’s Office of Community Service (OCS) is committed to creating conditions where students, faculty and staff can work to address the unmet needs of the Washington, D.C. community. Through its extensive resources and access to thousands of volunteer service opportunities, OCS helps match GW community members with either long-term or short-term service projects, federal work study placements, internships, service-learning courses or student service organizations.
