ASHBURN, VA – The George Washington University’s Executive Leadership Doctoral Program and Center for the Study of Learning are co-sponsoring the 2002 Society for Organization Learning’s (SoL) Research Conference at GW’s Research and Technology Campus in Ashburn, Va.  The two-day conference, themed “Relevance and Rigor,” will explore the latest developments in organizational learning and transformation.  The conference hours are Monday, October 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Tuesday, October 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The mission of the SoL Greenhouse Conference is to bring together international groups of practitioners, consultants and researchers to examine and explore more innovative and effective ways to understand and to aid organizational learning and to understand the challenges facing today’s leaders.

“This conference will help build a bridge between the business community and universities by providing practical insights from the business world to enhance theory development and research agendas at learning centers such as the GW Virginia Campus,” said David R. Schwandt, director of the GW Executive Leadership Program and the Center for the Study of Learning.

Speakers for the conference include:

The Society for Organizational Learning (SoL) was founded in April 1997 as the successor to MIT’s Organizational Learning Center.  SoL is a not-for-profit, member-governed corporation created to connect corporations, researchers and consultants to generate knowledge about and capacity for fundamental innovation and change by engaging in collaborative action inquiry projects.

The GW Executive Leadership Program was founded in 1989 to build a community where scholars and practitioners can come together in the pursuit of learning to gain insights into the human and organizational phenomenon.  The program is currently celebrating the recruitment of its 15th cohort of scholar-practitioners, and has over 80 doctoral alumni who continue to serve their communities as well as impact their organizations and industries through practice, scholarly writing, research and presenting at conferences around the world.

Chartered in 1989, the GW Center for the Study of Learning is an international research and development organization devoted to issues of learning in the field of Human and Organizational Studies.  The center’s mission is to develop a theoretical base for organizational, group and individual learning and development by studying the factors that enhance and prevent organizations and/or individuals from performing and learning.

The GW Virginia Campus serves an international technology and management community from its research and technology campus near Dulles International Airport in the Northern Virginia technology corridor.  Since opening in August 1991, the campus has grown from modest beginnings with 50 acres, 200 enrollments, and $50,000 in funded research to a strong, vigorous cluster of academic programs with over 3,000 enrollments, 90 acres and funded research that tops $28 million in the areas of transportation safety and security, information technology and telecommunications.

Attendance is limited to 100 SoL and GW members and invitees.
