Congressman Marty Meehan (D-MA) kicks off The George Washington University Club's "In The Know Series" - a luncheon conversation with prominent leaders in politics, the arts, and civic life. Rep. Meehan's address to the University Club membership will focus on the growing battle to pass campaign finance reform in the aftermath of the Enron scandal, and the State of the Union address to be given that evening by President Bush. |

Background:
Congressman Meehan (D-MA) is an important national voice in the House of Representatives, especially as a leader in the battle to pass campaign finance reform. Meehan, along with Rep. Chris Shays (R-CT) and Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Russ Feingold (D-WI), is the author of the bill that would reform the nation's campaign finance laws by banning soft money and placing reasonable limits on so called "issue ads." Meehan is a member of the Armed Services Committee and House Judiciary Committee - two very active committees since the September 11 terrorist attacks. Meehan is also recognized as one of the tobacco industry's toughest critics on Capitol Hill.
