Background: Congressman Meehan (D-MA) is an important national voice in the House of Representatives, especially as a leader in the battle to pass campaign finance reform. Meehan, along with Rep. Chris Shays (R-CT) and Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Russ Feingold (D-WI), is the author of the bill that would reform the nation's campaign finance laws by banning soft money and placing reasonable limits on so called "issue ads." Meehan is a member of the Armed Services Committee and House Judiciary Committee - two very active committees since the September 11 terrorist attacks. Meehan is also recognized as one of the tobacco industry's toughest critics on Capitol Hill. Seating is limited and
