Background:

Douglas Gansler is serving his first term as Montgomery County State's Attorney representing the largest jurisdiction in the State of Maryland with a population of nearly one million residents. Gansler graduated cum laude from Yale University, where he was an All-American lacrosse player. Upon graduating from The University of Virginia School of Law, Gansler clerked for the Honorable John F. McAuliffe on the Maryland Court of Appeals before litigating as an associate at the law firm of Howrey & Simon. In 1992, Gansler was appointed as an assistant United States attorney where he prosecuted a wide variety of cases, including domestic violence, health-care fraud, gang-related violence, narcotics trafficking, sex offenses and murder.

The GW Law School Enrichment Program was established to enhance the extracurricular intellectual life of the Law School. Now in its 22nd year, previous speakers include Supreme Court Justices Scalia, O'Connor, Kennedy, and Ginsburg; former Senator Bill Bradley; Congressman Barney Frank; columnist George Will; attorney Alan Dershowitz; and Assistant Attorney General Joel Klein.

Established in 1865, The George Washington University Law School is the oldest law school in the District of Columbia. Accredited by the American Bar Association and a charter member of the Association of American Law Schools, the Law School enrolls approximately 1,750 students each year.
