BACKGROUND:

Every weeknight, Jon Stewart and his team of correspondents challenge the media status quo and provide viewers with a hilarious, reality-based look at news, trends, pop culture, current events, sports, entertainment and, of course, politics with an alternative point of view. Mr. Stewart's Emmy and Peabody Award-winning "The Daily Show" is featured on Comedy Central and has made him a bonafide television personality and household name, particularly popular among college students.

Throughout his career, Mr. Stewart has engaged in serious and also humorous interviews with President Barack Obama, Steve Martin, Chris Matthews, Larry King, Newt Gingrich and Will Ferrell, and even recently hosted the annual Academy Awards.

Mr. Stewart previously headlined GW's Colonials Weekend in 2005. "We welcome back to campus a true comedy celebrity,"said Robert A. Chernak, senior vice president for student and academic support services. "When we think of an act to appeal to our engaged, politically motivated campus community, no one fits the bill better than Jon Stewart--he speaks to the GW demographic perfectly through his creative, engaging style that is certain to entertain all of our audiences."

Colonials Weekend is an annual celebration comprised of entertainment, school spirit events, lectures, and other activities aimed at bringing together GW's students, family, and friends.  Colonials Weekend is sponsored by the Division of Student and Academic Support Services.
