Sir Lawrence Freedman, professor of war studies at King's College in London and winner of the 2009 Lionel Gelber Prize for his book, A Choice of Enemies: America Confronts the Middle East, will discuss his text with Moisés Naím, editor-in-chief of Foreign Policy. The event is sponsored by GW's Elliott School of International Affairs, the Lionel Gelber Foundation, the Munk Centre for International Studies at the University of Toronto, and Foreign Policy.

BACKGROUND:
Sir Lawrence Freedman, one of the most distinguished historians of 20th-century military and political strategy, is based at King's College, London. He is the official historian of the Falklands War and author of the prize-winning Kennedy's Wars: Berlin, Cuba, Laos, and Vietnam.
The Lionel Gelber Prize was established in 1989 by Canadian diplomat Lionel Gelber. The Gelber Prize is a literary award for the world's best non-fiction book in English that seeks to deepen public debate on significant global issues. The prize is presented annually by The Lionel Gelber Foundation in partnership with the Munk Centre for International Studies at the University of Toronto and Foreign Policy.
