BACKGROUND:

The 2008 annual awards show highlights the many pedagogical directions in which the Department of Fine Arts and Art History has been engaged.  Of the 24 works on display, Kenny George, M.F.A. graduate student, took first prize with a double photograph of himself.  Second prize went to Ryder Haske, sophomore, for his work in photography, and Sara Hubbs, M.F.A. grad student, was awarded third price for her video titled, Arizona Wall.  Other awards have been given for work in ceramics, design, drawing, painting, photography, and sculpture. This year's judge is Victoria Reis, executive director of Transformer Gallery located in Washington, D.C.  A complete list of award winners is available through the gallery.

The Luther W. Brady Art Gallery is the professional showcase for art at GW. Luther W. Brady (B.A. '46, M.D. '48), the gallery's namesake and benefactor, is a world-renowned oncologist who earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees at GW. He also received the honorary degree of Doctor of Fine Arts from GW in May 2004 and has served as a member of the University's Board of Trustees.
