GW GREEN MOVE-OUT DONATIONS HELP SUSTAIN LOCAL CHARITIES
MAY 1-21, 2009

WASHINGTON--Driving many of the sustainability initiatives at GW are its students, and their creativity and dedication will be on display this May. As part of the 4th annual Green Move-Out--a University-wide, environmentally friendly initiative--students plan to recycle and donate household items as they move out of their residence halls.

Throughout the Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon campuses, residence halls will host a variety of food, clothing and household goods drives that are open to students, staff and faculty. In addition, a book donation drive and a campus-wide e-cycling initiative will be held to gather unwanted computers, mobile phones, batteries and ink cartridges.

The GW community has quickly embraced Green Move-Out. In May 2008 alone, they collected more than 2,250 bags of clothes, 3,000 pounds of food, 4,500 books and 51 pieces of e-cycling materials. Students are even finding innovative ways to use items that are not normally accepted for donation, including used sheets, blankets and towels, which are coveted by animal shelters.

Donations will benefit The National Children's Center, Bread for the City, So Others Might Eat (SOME), the Capital Area Food Bank and local animal shelters.

Green Move-Out is sponsored by GW's Residential Life Services Cluster, the Residence Hall Association, GW Office of Community Service, Revolution Green LLC, the Greek Community, Campaign GW, Aramark Facility Services, Caldwell & Gregory, Moving Masters and Pitney Bowes Management Services.

The George Washington University is committed to operating its programs and activities in ways that express its responsibilities as a pre-eminent institutional citizen of the nation's capital.
