GW'S COLLEGE OF PROFESSIONAL STUDIES HEALTHCARE PROGRAM HONORED WITH NATIONAL COMPLIANCE AND ETHICS AWARD
Program is the First to Offer Comprehensive Online Graduate Certificate in
Healthcare Compliance
WASHINGTON - The George Washington University's College of Professional Studies Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Corporate Compliance program recently was awarded a national Healthcare Compliance and Ethics Award by the Healthcare Compliance Certification Board (HCCB). The award was presented at the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics' Annual International Compliance Awards Banquet in Chicago. The awards recognize leaders in the compliance field who exemplify professional integrity and strengthen the profession.
"We are delighted that GW has been recognized for the strength and uniqueness of its compliance program," said Phyllis C. Borzi, program director of GW's Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Corporate Compliance and research professor of health policy in the University's School of Public Health and Health Services. "This honor underscores the importance of healthcare compliance as a profession and establishes the University as a leader in this field. Our program is the first academically based compliance training program to utilize a blended learning format and is a natural complement to the University's leadership role in training future generations of healthcare professionals."
Debbie Troklus, president of HCCB and vice president for health affairs/compliance at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, said, "The George Washington University's healthcare compliance program has made significant contributions to the corporate compliance and ethics profession in under two years. Through their combined online and residency program, GW has expanded student participation and made valuable compliance education accessible to all."
Designed for working professionals, the 12-credit GW Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Corporate Compliance provides students with a comprehensive view of healthcare corporate compliance. The program's instruction consists of GW faculty members and practitioners in the field, including senior government regulators and litigators, legal experts, patient advocates, current health care executives, and compliance officers. The course of study combines a six-month online distance learning component with two short in-classroom residencies in Alexandria, Va. Credits may be applied toward a Master of Public Health degree from GW's School of Public Health and Health Services. Applications currently are being accepted through August, 15, 2007, for the fall cohort.
GW's Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Corporate Compliance is the result of a partnership between the University's College of Professional Studies, GW's School of Public Health and Health Services, and the Washington, D.C., law firm of Feldesman Tucker Leifer Fidell LLP. Also collaborating in the program's development is McDermott Will & Emery LLP and Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP, two firms that specialize in health care law.
HCCB was established by the Healthcare Compliance Association in 1999 to develop and manage the certification program. The association is the only national, non-profit organization solely dedicated to improving the quality of health care compliance through supporting ethical practice and compliance standards and providing the necessary resources for ethics and compliance professionals.
GW's College of Professional Studies offers both full- and part-time undergraduate and graduate programs that continue the educational experience for those in emerging and rapidly changing professions. Programs draw on the expertise of GW faculty and outside partners - professional associations, community organizations, consulting enterprises, and industry leaders - to present innovative, forward-looking curricula with immediate relevance in today's workplaces.
Located four blocks from the White House, The George Washington University was created by an Act of Congress in 1821. Today, GW is the largest institution of higher education in the nation's capital. The University offers comprehensive programs of undergraduate and graduate liberal arts study as well as degree programs in medicine, public health, law, engineering, education, business, and international affairs. Each year, GW enrolls a diverse population of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and more than 120 countries.
