GW IN THE NEWS Week of December 3 - 7, 2001  ·             James Starrs, professor of law and forensic science, and David Foran, assistant professor of forensic science, held a press conference at the National Press Club to announce their DNA findings related to the Boston Strangler and his alleged last victim, Mary A. Sullivan. The briefing was covered by CNN, Fox News Channel, NPR, Conus Television, NBC, ABC Radio, The New York Times, Washington Post, Associated Press, Boston Globe, WHDH-TV, WTTG, Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Reuters, Tribune Broadcasting, Hearst, WBZ-CBS, The History Channel, "People Magazine," York Dispatch, CBS Radio, the Discovery Channel and others.  Additional interviews by Starrs and Foran include Court TV, "Good Morning America" and the Canadian Broadcasting Company.  ·             GW President Stephen Joel Trachtenberg was interviewed by CNN on the Student Visa Reform Act that is under review by the U.S. Congress.   ·             Ann Judge, staff psychologist for GW's Counseling Center, was interviewed by CBS, discussing the topic of unemployment during the holiday season.  ·             Dr. Michael Olding, surgery, was featured in an article on the benefits of plastic surgery in the November/December 2001 issue of "Arrive Magazine."   ·             Dr. Tee Guidotti appeared on "Judicial Watch" and at the National Press Club giving talks on the topic of bio-terrorism in response to the national crisis.  Guidotti was also interviewed by Gordon Peterson on the evening news, WUSA-TV (Channel 9) regarding ASAP activity.   ·             Joseph M. Jeral, a second year GW resident in the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, was the co-author of a commentary published in the Archives of Internal Medicine on whether a scientific approach was appropriate in assessing the power of prayer in medicine.   ·             Jerold Post, professor of political psychiatry and international affairs, and Michael Manyak, associate professor of urology at GW's Ambulatory Care Center, were named in Washingtonian Magazine's "50 Best and Brightest" people of the region.  ·             SBPM’s Robert P. Maxon Lecture by Alan Greenspan was covered live by Bloomberg, CNBC and CNN. CBS, C-SPAN, ABC, NHK Broadcasting, Reuters and AP also covered the event.  ·             Dr. Christina Puchalski, director GWISH, assistant professor of medicine and health care sciences, was interviewed by the Providence Journal, (Rhode Island), for the publication "Health Care with Spirit." Dr. Puchalski was also featured in "Mind Body, Connections," a show focusing on spiritually and health in the PBS series "To the Contrary. "   ·             AP, Reuters, and WCBS were among the news organizations calling for interviews with GW Professor Joseph Barbera, Anthony MacIntyre, and Craig DeAtley. The three are among the co-authors of a new report in Journal of American Medical Association on the feasibility of quarantine as a way to contain disease during a bio-terrorism strike.    ·             Dr. Hany Aly, newborn services, was featured on GW's and Fox 5 News' joint segment "High Tech Healthcare" discussing the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at GW and its successful approach to caring for premature babies.  ·             Dr. Samuel Potolicchio, neurology, was featured on Fox 5 News on Sunday, November 25. Dr. Potolicchio discussed a brain mapping technique to help diagnose epilepsy.  ·             Dr. Bradley Snyder, radiology, was featured on Fox 5 News on Sunday, December 2, 2001. Dr. Snyder discussed the value of GW Hospital's new CT scanner for diagnosing lung cancer in its earliest stages.  ·             Reuters TV was at GW Hospital filming the cesarean delivery of premature twins.  Dr. Charlotte Larson, OB-GYN, was interviewed on the risks of delivering prematurely. Dr. Hany Aly, newborn services, was also interviewed about the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit's successful approach to caring for premature babies.  ·             Dr. Gene Cohen, endocrinology, was featured on radio station DC 101's monthly healthcare feature on November 28th.
