Week of August 27 - 31, 2001

  

  • The Washington Post, CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, and NPR were on campus and interviewed various people including President Stephen Trachtenberg, Vice President Bob Chernak, Media Relations Director Gretchen King, and GW students about how GW successfully handled the increased number of incoming freshmen.

 

  • Gordon Adams, director of security policy studies at the Elliot School of International Affairs was quoted in The New York Times about the new surplus projections and how much money would be spent on defense.

 

  • Peter Swire, professor of law, was quoted in The Washington Post, UPI and Newsbytes about online privacy issues.

 

  • Darryl Jenkins, director of the GW's aviation institute, was quoted in The Los Angeles Times about JetBlue Airways opening its second hub at Long Beach, CA airport.  Jenkins was also quoted in The Christian Science Monitor about the lawsuits that frequent fliers have filed against airlines that charge higher prices at some airports. 

 

  • Dr. Michael Manyak, department of urology, was interviewed by Gannett News Service and CBS News about enlarged prostates.

 

  • Kip Lornell, professor of Africana studies, was interviewed by "Source" magazine about women in Go Go music.  Lornell was also interviewed by "US News and World Report" about his book "The Beat" and Chuck Brown. 

 

  • Thomas Morgan, professor of law, was quoted in The Seattle Post on the latest details of the Microsoft anti-trust case.

 

  • Jonathan Turley, professor of law, was interviewed on "Fox News Special Report with Brit Hume" on Anne Marie Smith's legal claims against Gary Condit.  Turley was also quoted in The Chicago Tribune about the Gary Condit case.

 

  • Ralph Steinhardt, professor of law, was interviewed by the BBC on global justice issues and the Milosevic international war crimes trial. 

 

  • Jack Friedenthal, professor of law, discussed the latest NCAA probation ruling against USC for academic fraud in University Wire and The Daily Trojan (USC).

 

  • Elliott School's Robert Dunn, professor of economics, was interviewed on CNNfn about the budget surplus.

 

  • Paul Butler, associate professor of law, was interviewed on CNNfn about the Chandra Levy case.

 

  • This week's "GW Washington Forum" featured discussions about tension in the Middle East with Elliott School Professors Walter Reich and Jerrold Post.
